About the Project
Kaniv' Athenaeum is a non-profit public organisation that unites Ukraine’s intellectual community. The idea of founding the organization belongs to Orysia Demska — Ukrainian linguist, Doctor of Philology, professor, and educator.
The Objective
The project aims to create a platform for dialogue between leaders of different fields and systems — “everyone with everyone” — to listen, discuss, and share thoughts, experiences, and visions on pressing and controversial fundamental issues of self-identification, nation-building, and the future of Ukraine.
The goal of the design was to create a simple and clear, uncluttered yet engaging identity for the newly established organization — one that would distinguish it from other similar initiatives. It was important to provide room for further growth, adaptation, and evolution of the design according to needs and scale.
Design Solution
The design is based on a simple yet important symbol in Ukrainian written language — square brackets. Such brackets are often used in quotations to add explanations or clarifications, to mark omitted fragments; they provide context without distorting the original meaning. This resonates deeply with the core purpose of the Kaniv' Athenaeum, as the goal of the association is the exchange of ideas, meanings, and perspectives, so that something new, fundamental, and fruitful may emerge. Inside the brackets are three dots […] as a symbol and acknowledgement that none of the founders yet know where this initiative will lead or what result they ultimately want to see. The meaning, for now, is to act, to grow, to gather, and to look ahead to what the future will bear.
The use of different typefaces represents the equality of ideas, united for a single purpose — a better future for Ukraine.
